Social deduction game about finding out who is part of your gang.

About

Project for our final year's Commercial Game Development module, where the whole year (approx. 45 students) has to collaborate together to make a base game and smaller, individual teams then create multiple variants of the base concept where the environments and gameplay mechanics vary.

The idea of this module is to simulate a commercial studio, with students assigned roles as gameplay or technical programmers, or producers.

The only guidance from lecturers was to create a social deduction style game similar to InnerSloth LLC's Among Us.

The concept: Every player is assigned as either a member of one of two gangs, a civilian, or a snitch character. The player has to interact with other players to find out who is part of which gang. The civilians are trying to join the winning gang (the one with the most members discovered) and the snitch has to identify a member of each gang and a civilian.

Contributions (Gameplay programmer)

Level design

Every group was assigned a different IP/theme. Our group was given a theme called "Infiltrators", a web-based hacking game designed by UWE's in-house studio called PlayWest.

Using this theme, We constructed a three-level office complex using Unity's TileMap system and creating custom game objects for props and interactives.

Audio and audio manager

Our group was assigned to construct an audio manager. This was done using FMOD for Unity.

Task System

We developed the base system for the tasks. It was made to be as simple as possible so other teams could quickly and simply develop new tasks. All of the interactions and completion/failed states are handled by the system, teams only needed to handle the task behaviour.

Asset collection and editing of sounds

Sounds for the game were sampled from SoundSnap edited certain audio appropriately edited for the whole year to use, whether it is general sounds or sounds specific for certain IPs.
